Twelve days before the election, Governor Ernie Fletcher is in a 15-point hole, according to a new Research 2000 poll for the Lexington Herald-Leader. Democrat Steve Beshear leads the Republican incumbent 55 to 40. Beshear is winning 84% support among Democrats, and he leads among Independents by 23 points (57-34). Fletcher has 77% support among Republicans but it is losing 22% of the Republican vote to his opponent.
Fletcher's unfavorable rating is still sky high, 56% in this poll, compared to a 42% favorable rating. Beshear's ratings are the exact opposite: 55% rate him favorably, while 39% view him unfavorably.
The election is Tuesday, November 6.
